Siwakhile Development aims to bring about social change within South Africa and surrounding countries through providing investment and infrastructure to poor rural communities and empowering and mentoring those who want to create better opportunities. Where willing and determined local people have proved their desire to improve the lives of the least fortunate in their society, the Foundation provides funding and facilities to help them expand their influence and effectiveness.
Assisting both young and old, Siwakhile Development founder ThembaMasuku has a passion for working with rural communities and breaking the currently inevitable cycle of poverty. Having grown up in a poor family in a Rural Community in Pongola, he understands the reality of their situation.
Although his education gave him the chance to work anywhere he made a conscious decision to use his experience to help others who, like him, want nothing more than to make a better life for themselves and their families. After more than a decade of experience in implementing community-based projects this Foundation is now bringing rural populations face to face with some of the world’s biggest blue-chip companies. Uniting people from vastly different cultural and economic backgrounds, SiwakhileDevelopment is helping to change rural South Africa - one community at a time.
“The goodwill of others has enabled me to change my life’s destiny. I want others to have this same opportunity and make some of their dreams a reality. Furthermore we impress upon the communities we assist that it is their duty to empower those around them,” said Masuku.
“Through uninhibited goodwill and corporate partnerships we change the course of the lives of people and their families. It is our responsibility to humanity not only to provide this platform but to also build their confidence and help these communities realise their dreams. The Foundation will harness the passion I have to do just this and I know I am not alone”.
The young ‘social’ entrepreneur is currently completing his deploma in Community Development through the University of South Africa and is also studying Social Entrepreneurship through the Gordon’s Institute of Business Studies.
Siwakhile Development( no: 098- 355- NPO) was established in 2008 and became a registered non-profit organisation with the Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Social Development in 2011
